The Java Foundation and Craft Silicon Foundation have entered a powerful new partnership focused on one goal: giving children a better shot at learning and thriving.
The two organizations, both committed to social impact, will be working together to support schools through two key areas, nutrition and digital education. By combining resources and expertise, they aim to improve learning conditions for thousands of students in Kenya.
A Partnership with Purpose
This partnership will see Java Foundation provide daily meals to students enrolled in Craft Silicon Foundation’s ICT Training Programs, ensuring that learners are well-fed and ready to absorb new skills. In turn, Craft Silicon Foundation will take its Solar-powered Mobile Computer Labs and digital training curriculum to primary schools already part of Java Foundation’s feeding program, starting with Gatina and Ngunyumu Primary Schools in Nairobi.
Speaking on the collaboration, Priscilla Gathungu, Group CEO of Java House, said:
“We know that the ability to learn starts with a full stomach. This partnership is about fuelling children’s potential, with both nourishment and the digital skills they need to thrive.”
Taking Digital Literacy to the Doorsteps
Craft Silicon Foundation brings years of experience in digital skilling, having trained over 74,000 learners across Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and India. Their unique approach uses solar-powered buses that serve as mobile computer labs, bringing digital education directly to students who might otherwise miss out.
“As we team up with Java Foundation, we’re solving two of the biggest challenges at once: hunger and access to technology,” said Priya Budhabhatti, CEO of Craft Silicon Foundation.
“We believe ICT is the bridge between dreams and opportunity, and we’re going to where the need is greatest.”
Impact Beyond the Classroom
The partnership also opens up possibilities beyond the current programs. Jav a Foundation, which already feeds over 2,500 children daily through its collaboration with Food For Education, is looking to expand its reach by incorporating hydroponic gardens in select schools.
Meanwhile, Craft Silicon Foundation continues to run additional programs around sanitary health, tree planting, and vaccination campaigns, showing a strong commitment to holistic community development.
Looking Ahead
Over the next year, both foundations will work together to monitor progress, evaluate impact, and explore opportunities to expand this joint effort to more schools across Kenya.
This collaboration is a milestone in the journey to ensure that every child has the right tools to learn, grow, and succeed, starting with a full plate and a working laptop.
